This is a genuine vintage 1962 Epiphone Texan FT79 Acoustic Guitar, manufactured by Gibson in the USA at their Kalamazoo factory and crafted right alongside Gibson's J-45, with identical body dimensions. Indelibly linked with Paul McCartney, this Texan is like the guitar made famous on the Ed Sullivan performance of Yesterday, just a couple years older. This well played acoustic comes to us from L.A. Session Guitarist & longtime Jackson Browne sideman  Val McCallum. Check out some of the other guitars of Val's we have listed......

What sets the Texan apart (and truly makes it more akin to a Gibson AJ) is the full 25 1/2" scale length, which puts extra tension on the solid spruce top and yields an incredibly powerful sound. The instrument has tons of projection and punch and is quite the cannon, with the benefit of decades of use tempering the top for a noticeably open and responsive sound. When you strum a chord, the tone is deep and powerful, with a cut that’s never strident and has lots of rumble and character, while holding together well in the lower frequencies and sustaining beautifully.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a fairly slender C shape with moderate shoulder and only a hair more depth as you travel up the fretboard. With a  Brazilian rosewood fretboard and a nut that measures a full 1 11/16" in width and has nice clarity and sustain. The headstock retains the original Kluson Deluxe single line strip tuners which turn smoothly and hold pitch well.

The body has a rosewood bridge which sits flush with the top on all edges (Not Original). The action is low and comfortable with room to adjust the saddle higher or lower to taste. The original tortoise pickguard provides a great contrast to the original gloss nitro lacquer Sunburst finish, and the pickguard has the original silver foil "E" epsilon sticker too. Weight is 4.3 lbs. Non-Original Bridge and Bone Nut.  The Top has been professionally re-braced.

NOTE : No OHSC for this one. Hardshell case in photos included.
